A week never went by so quickly while I was working? Now I wipe the S#*t out of my eyes and week one of The Longest Drive is kaput! The weather has been great and it is approximately 1 million degrees in Durban at the moment. I have been sweating like a Gypsy with a mortgage, so in other words, a hell of a lot.
I can’t complain about the sun can I?
Nah, so let’s move on!
After the last blog post went up, I played a course called Princes Grant (AKA Walter White), the very next day. On hole four, who do I hear rumbling behind me? Exhibit A below. Those of you that have read my previous blog post will know what I’m talking about.
The dreaded lawnmower men came back in their droves and followed me throughout my round. Perhaps I smell like uncut grass and they can’t keep their well oiled blades away from me? It’s been better since then so perhaps the lawnmowers have found a new golfer to have a crush on, let’s hope so…
I met a fellow golfer at the backpackers I was staying at and as one does, you drink beer and wine until two in the morning talking about…
You guessed it!
Mr Leon Arries, you have given me plenty of food for thought for the Cape Town courses I have coming up so I thank you Sir, I’ll be seeing you for a round at Boschenmeer!
How has the golf been? After a full week of it, I can safely say that I far prefer being out on the course to sitting behind a desk, but I had a hunch that would be the case 😉
After Umhlali my next 3 outings were to Zimbali in Ballito, Princes Grant near Stanger and Cotswold Downs near Hillcrest. All three were pretty awesome golf courses but with very differing personalities. These three courses got my creative juices flowing so kindly let me explain The Temptress, 007 and Walter White…
I like to think of Zimbali as the temptress, luring you in with her natural beauty and swagger, then eating you up and spitting you out once she is done. She is a cruel mistress but I will happily be put under her spell again. As any good temptress does, she leaves you with a feeling of awe once she is done and leaves you wanting to go back, although you know you may be in for some of the same punishment, you know you will enjoy it. So how did I fair in the clutches of the Temptress you ask? Well here it is…
What I shot :88
The Temptress truly pulls you in and doesn’t let you go until you drive out of her gates. Her natural beauty and the challenge she poses really makes for an enjoyable round of golf. One more beautiful, you will be hard pressed to find…
Suave, sophisticated, well dressed and does all the right things at all the right times, this is Downs – Cotswold Downs. I mean when you have a view like this greeting you. from the get go you know you are in for a special agent of a high calibre.
This hole, wow, just WOW.
There aren’t many things I can say about 007 Cotswold Downs except play it. It was a golfing operation of excellence I have yet to come across and you will be hard pressed to find many better golfing days out than at the super slick 007. It’s a beaut.

Princes Grant, AKA – Walter White ( From Breaking Bad) is one of those courses that you want to keep on your side. Walter is calculating and precise, a friend when you are good to him and fiend when you are not, Walter is one of those places you have the highest regard for but need to have the utmost respect.
What I shot :88
Walter is full of bravado and looks the part but will tear you to pieces if you aren’t careful, hole 16 is the perfect example of that. (What a view, man this is a great hole!)
Walter is a place you have to play but make sure you have your wits about you…
Sho what a week it has been, I have been truly spoiled by the courses I have played and can’t wait to get cracking on the rest! I have Mount Edgecombe one, Durban Country Club and Durban Country Club – Beachwood coming up so until then…
See you on the course!
